ENGLAND QUALIFIES FOR THE EUROPEAN TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP FINAL!
Netherlands - England, Vlissingen, 20-21 December 1975 by Raymond Keene
After the previous matches against Wales and France, the English team arrived in Vlissingen needing to score only 7/16 in order to qualify for the final in Moscow in 1977 (since the preliminary group is decided on game, not match points). Actually, we tied 8-8 and won the group convincingly as well as achieving the aim of qualification.
Nearly all the games were very hard fought, for example my [RDK's] two games with Timman lasted for a total of 16 hours!
